NBA 2K24 Disappoints PC Players with Lack of Crossplay and Last-Gen Version

Learn why PC players are left disappointed with the upcoming NBA 2K24 release.

2K Games has recently unveiled some features of the highly anticipated NBA 2K24, but it comes with a major disappointment for PC players. The game, slated for release, will be based on the last-generation consoles, PS4 and Xbox One.

Although 2K Games hasn’t explicitly stated this, it becomes evident when examining the fine print of their marketing push for the game: crossplay. Astonishingly, only the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions will support this highly anticipated new feature.

Confirmation can be found in an official NBA 2K24 FAQ and further emphasized in the game’s trailer, which heavily promotes crossplay before revealing that it is exclusive to the “new gen” consoles.

While 2K Games falls short of 2K CEO Strauss Zelnick personally expressing contempt toward PC gamers, their actions speak louder than words. This marks the third consecutive NBA title from 2K Games to deliver an inferior version on the PC platform. One might forgive the first instance as a mistake, but repeating the same pattern indicates a lack of care and consideration for the PC audience.

2K Stands Alone in Ignoring PC Gamers

2K Games is now in a league of its own when it comes to neglecting PC gamers. Even EA, with its FIFA series, pursued a similar approach for a few years before rectifying the situation and ensuring parity across platforms with FIFA 23.

While PC systems vary in specifications, it feels absurd that 2K Games would withhold a superior version of the game due to a lack of commitment to optimization efforts. These are the official NBA games we’re talking about here – it’s safe to say they have a substantial following.

Cover Star and Release Date Announcement

In other NBA 2K24 news, 2K Games revealed that the late Kobe Bryant would grace the cover of the game, with various editions available, including a special Black Mamba edition in honor of Bryant’s chosen nickname. The game is set to launch on September 8, generating excitement among basketball fans.

NBA 2K24

Unfortunately, for PC players, NBA 2K24 feels like a total airball once again. The lack of crossplay and the decision to stick with the last-gen version of the game on PC leaves fans feeling sidelined. It is disheartening to see 2K Games persist in neglecting the PC community, failing to deliver the optimal experience they deserve.

As the NBA 2K24 release approaches, PC players can only hope for a change in the future and a fairer treatment from 2K Games.
