Fans of the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, have been eagerly awaiting the fifth season, and it appears that their patience may soon pay off. As preparations for filming are in full swing, the only thing standing in the way is the resolution of the ongoing actors’ strike.
Shawn Levy, a prominent producer of the show, shared some exciting updates during an interview with The Wrap. “I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible.
We really need the actors’ strike resolved first,” Levy expressed. The Duffer Brothers, creators of the show, have been diligently working on the script since the recent conclusion of the writers’ strike.
Levy also couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for another exciting development related to Stranger Things. He mentioned, “We’re busy on a bunch of fronts because we also have our Stranger Things play opening in London imminently. It’s fabulous. It’s fucking awesome.”
The enthusiasm extends to the entire Stranger Things team, from the cast to the crew. Levy emphasized the urgency, saying, “We are raring to go – our cast, our crew. Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actors’ strike ends.”
The actors’ strike, led by SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), has been ongoing since July. The dispute revolves around streaming revenue and the use of AI in productions, and it involves negotiations with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers).
In contrast, the Writers Guild of America (WGA), representing screenwriters, was embroiled in a nearly five-month strike earlier in the year. Fortunately, their industrial action concluded at the end of September, and the Stranger Things writers’ room swiftly resumed its work.
Shawn Levy previously hinted at the grandeur of what’s to come in the show’s final season, saying, “There’s no way to be contiguous with season 4, and not, frankly, expand scale and depth. It’s major, major, cinematic storytelling that happens to be called a TV series. Stranger Things 5 is as big as any of the biggest movies that we see.”
As the strike-related hurdles get closer to resolution, fans can anticipate an epic cinematic experience that will take Stranger Things to new heights in its upcoming fifth season.
