In a stunning feat of success, ‘Lies of P,’ the Pinocchio-themed Soulslike game developed by the Korean studio Neowiz, has achieved an impressive milestone, selling over 1 million copies within the first month of its release.
The game’s popularity extends across various gaming platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox consoles, in addition to its availability on Xbox Game Pass.
Jiwon Choi, the game director of ‘Lies of P,’ expressed gratitude for the overwhelming reception, saying, “The reception has been incredible so far, and we are beyond thankful that over one million players have already embarked on their journey through Krat.
Likewise, we are excited for what the future holds for Lies of P, and can’t wait to share more when the time is right.” The anticipation for this game’s future is heightened as DLC (Downloadable Content) has already been confirmed, promising even more exciting content for players.
Seungchul Kim, the Co-CEO of Neowiz, also weighed in on this remarkable achievement, highlighting its significance on the global stage. Kim stated, “This incredible milestone for Lies of P proves the potential of Korean console games on the global stage. The Lies of P project was a challenging endeavor for Neowiz and Round8 Studio, and we take great pride in what we achieved with this title.”
Lies of P, despite following the well-established Soulslike template, garnered positive reviews upon its release last month. Its unique Pinocchio-inspired theme, combined with tweaks to weapons and its edgy tone, sets it apart.
Critics praised the game’s foundation, describing it as “strong enough to provide an enjoyable experience for those in need of a FromSoftware fix.”
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the citizens of Krat.
Thank you to everyone who helped us and accompanied us and we hope you join in our future journeys as well.#LiesofP pic.twitter.com/BpGUr0rkDn— Lies of P (@Liesofp) October 17, 2023
Jiwon Choi, during a discussion at Gamescom before the game’s release, shared insights into the challenges of entering a genre dominated by FromSoftware. “We wanted a challenge and to make the best game of that genre,” said Choi. “There are so many Soulslike games and already masterpieces from FromSoftware. It was pressure and motivation at the same time.” Despite the intense competition, ‘Lies of P’ managed to carve out its own unique niche.
The game’s early success signifies not only a promising future for ‘Lies of P’ but also showcases the growing influence of Korean game developers on the global gaming scene. As ‘Lies of P’ continues to captivate players worldwide, the industry eagerly anticipates what Neowiz has in store for this remarkable title in the coming months.
