Insomniac Reveals New Game Plus Mode for Spider-Man 2, Expected by Late 2023

Insomniac, the developer behind Spider-Man 2, plans to introduce a New Game Plus mode to the game, much to the delight of fans, with an expected release by the end of 2023.

In exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the release of Spider-Man 2, developer Insomniac has officially confirmed the addition of a New Game Plus mode to the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive.

This announcement comes as a reassuring response to the curiosity of fans who have been pondering the status of this beloved feature, which allows players to revisit the game’s campaign in an overpowered state, carrying over all the abilities they’ve unlocked from previous playthroughs.

Insomniac’s community and marketing director, James Stevenson, took to Twitter to interact with fans and provide clarity on the matter. In response to inquiries, Stevenson assured players that the New Game Plus mode is in the works and is expected to be integrated into the game post-launch.

No – we’re working on an update for those features but they won’t be in Day 1

The anticipated update is currently slated to make its debut by the end of 2023, promising extended enjoyment and replayability for Spider-Man 2 enthusiasts. In addition to New Game Plus, another feature that will not be available at the game’s launch is a mission replay option, as mentioned by Stevenson.

The Spider-Man 2 development team has also been responsive to player discussions and questions. It was recently confirmed that the fast-travel “hold-to-confirm” prompt in the game does not conceal a loading screen, resolving a debate among players about the speed and functionality of this feature in the game.

Furthermore, Insomniac disclosed that owners of the physical release of Spider-Man 2 need not download the Day 1 patch to fully enjoy the game. However, they “highly encourage” those with the disc version to install patch 1.001.002 before embarking on their Spider-Man adventure, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.

In the words of early reviews, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” is poised as a sequel in a spectacular series, building upon a successful combat and web-swinging formula without undergoing revolutionary changes. Instead, it refines these elements while introducing new tweaks and abilities that elevate the experience to exciting new heights.

The one aspect that critics believe required more significant change is the open world of New York City, which, although larger, has not seen substantial improvement, with a lengthy checklist of somewhat repetitive side activities.

Spider-Man 2 is set to swing onto PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023, much to the anticipation of fans worldwide. With the promise of a New Game Plus mode on the horizon, it appears that the excitement surrounding the game is only set to grow as players prepare to step into the iconic spidey suit once more.
