“The Last of Us,” HBO’s critically acclaimed adaptation of the popular video game, has officially announced the casting of Kaitlyn Dever for its second season. Dever, recognized for her versatile roles in both television and film, will portray the character of Abby in the upcoming season.

Kaitlyn Dever’s addition to “The Last of Us” brings a new dynamic to the show. She will be playing Abby, a character described as a skilled soldier with a black-and-white worldview, whose journey of vengeance challenges her perceptions.

This role is a significant addition to Dever’s already impressive resume, which includes TV shows like “Last Man Standing,” “Justified,” “Unbelievable,” and “Dopesick.” Her filmography is equally noteworthy, with performances in “Booksmart,” “Rosaline,” “Next Goal Wins,” and “No One Will Save You,” the latter of which she also executive produced.

The Last of Us

Her work has not gone unrecognized, as Dever has earned critical acclaim including a Golden Globe nomination for “Unbelievable” and both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for “Dopesick.” Represented by UTA and Felker Toczek, Dever’s casting in “The Last of Us” Season 2 is a testament to her growing stature in the acting world.

“The Last of Us” series, created by Neil Druckmann and developed by Naughty Dog, has captivated audiences and critics alike with its post-apocalyptic narrative. The story, set two decades after the collapse of modern civilization, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they navigate a perilous America, relying on each other for survival. The series has been praised for its emotional depth and faithful adaptation of the game’s storyline.

Season 1 of the series boasted a stellar cast including Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Merle Dandridge, and others. It has been a critical and commercial success, receiving three Golden Globe nominations and an impressive 25 Emmy nominations. At the Creative Arts Emmys, the series already claimed eight awards, including wins for Offerman and Reid in their respective guest acting categories.

“The Last of Us” is a product of collaboration between HBO and Sony Pictures Television, with production by PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog. The series is executive produced and written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who have also directed episodes. Other executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Rose Lam.

The show’s success and the anticipation for its second season underscore the expanding influence of video game adaptations in the entertainment industry. With Dever’s casting, fans are eager to see how her portrayal of Abby will add depth to the already rich narrative landscape of “The Last of Us.”
