The highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake has cleared another hurdle on its path to release, receiving an official rating in South Korea. The country’s ratings board handed down a mature rating for the survival horror remake last week, citing “excessive violence, blood, and depictions some may find fearful or disgusting.”
While no exact release date was given, the new rating keeps the remake on track for its planned launch window of 2023. Developer Bloober Team and publisher Konami remain quiet on a firm street date.
Fans will recall a similar pattern played out for last month’s Silent Hill playable teaser, which also received a Korea rating years before its eventual surprise release. However, with the Korea classification now secured, the Silent Hill 2 remake appears to be in end-stage preparations.

First revealed last October, the RE2-style remake of the 2001 horror classic promises updated visuals and gameplay while staying faithful to the original. Alongside razor-sharp new graphics, Bloober Team previously stated they plan “some new mechanics while keeping the original vision intact.”
As one of gaming’s most beloved horror titles, the project has already invited high expectations from fans. But with this latest ratings hurdle cleared, players are one step closer to experiencing the haunting world of Silent Hill 2 on modern hardware. While Konami stays typically quiet, the Korea rating suggests news could arrive soon.
