While Larian Studios takes a breather after Baldur’s Gate 3’s successful early access launch, the RPG’s dedicated modding community continues enriching the epic odyssey across the Forgotten Realms. Their latest impressive creation is a new mod that injects over 100 unique new magical trinket items into the sprawling fantasy world.
Dubbed the “JWL Discordant Instruments” mod, the creation by Nexus Mods user Jewels replaces the functionally useless musical instrument equipment slot with a new “Trinkets” category granting both universal and class-specific powerful effects.
These new trinkets run the gamut from convenient utility items to incredible rare loot capable of transforming gameplay. Some highlights include the Handy Haversack which massively increases carrying capacity, the Wind Fan allowing usage of the Gust of Wind spell, or the Ornate Dragon Totem bestowing flight and +2 to attack rolls for Barbarians and Druids.
According to the modder, all 100+ trinkets have been carefully balanced and distributed throughout the world in a fair manner befitting their potent attributes and rarity levels. Players can anticipate finding them organically as new discoveries during their next adventure.
“Trinkets function like most other equippable items and many can be found scattered across Faerûn,” Jewels explained in the mod description. “When found, they will grant the user some incredible benefits.”
While not class-restricted, several trinkets are tailored to cater towards specific character builds and playstyles. Rogues, for instance, can use the Stone of Good Luck to spend luck for advantage on checks. The Annotated Map of the Sword Coast, meanwhile, confers bonuses to History, Nature, and Survival for would-be rangers and historians.
As Baldur’s Gate 3 remains in active development, Larian has yet to implement official mod support for all platforms. However, the thriving PC modding scene has already transformed the sweeping RPG adventure in wildly creative ways.
From new player races and classes to inventive quest lines and gameplay overhauls, the community’s passion appears to ensure Baldur’s Gate 3 will continue receiving a wealth of fan-made content for years to come. Mods like the magical Discordant Instruments trinket collection are just the latest example of how modders are sustaining the spirit of dynamic, compelling fantasy world-building.
