The Resident Evil franchise has been a cornerstone of survival horror gaming, and fans have been eagerly anticipating updates on the series’ future. Recent leaks from a credible insider have shed light on Capcom’s rumored plans, revealing potential remakes and a delayed release for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 9.

According to leaker Dusk Golem, known for accurately predicting Resident Evil developments in the past, Capcom is currently working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code Veronica. This revelation comes after previous denials from the company regarding a Code Veronica remake, highlighting the ever-changing nature of game development plans.

“A remake of Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica in development right now,” Dusk Golem stated on social media. “I’ve talked to many others behind the scenes about this at this point, it’s something I heard over a year ago, think it was going to get out whether I was the one to say it or not, & that’s about it.”

Resident Evil Zero, released in 2002, served as a prequel to the original Resident Evil, following the story of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen as they navigated their way through a train derailment and encountered the early stages of the viral outbreak. Code Veronica, on the other hand, marked a significant entry in the series, continuing the story of Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2.

While the prospect of revisiting these classic titles with modern graphics and gameplay enhancements has excited fans, the leaks also brought some disappointing news regarding the long-awaited Resident Evil 9. According to Dusk Golem, the initial murmurs of a summer reveal for the ninth mainline entry were inaccurate, and the game’s announcement has been pushed back to late 2025 or early 2026.

“First, I would wipe the expectations of RE9 being announced this summer period. The initial murmurs I heard I now do believe are right, & RE9’s announcement is further away than initially expected,” the leaker stated. “RE9 is pushed back to late 2025/2026. If everything I’ve heard is correct, which I fully believe it is, & I know others have hinted this & I’m not the first to say this publicly, actually, just its not caught on, there’s actually…”

Dusk Golem also addressed rumors of remakes for the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 5, dismissing them as unfounded. “RE:1 Remake rumors are bullshit, as far as I know, RE:1 is not in any form of development at all right now,” the leaker stated, adding, “RE5 Remake is not in development either, as far as I know.”

While Capcom has yet to officially confirm these developments, the leaks have reignited discussions among fans about the franchise’s future direction. The potential remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica could provide an opportunity for newcomers to experience these classics while offering veterans a chance to revisit beloved titles with modern enhancements.

However, the reported delay of Resident Evil 9 may disappoint those eagerly awaiting the next mainline installment. As Capcom continues to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of game development, fans can only speculate and hope for official announcements that will shed light on the series’ future.
