The Star Wars movies and shows don’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Now that the Skywalker story finished with the 2019 movie The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm is looking ahead to the future of the galaxy far away. There will be lots of new Star Wars content coming out, including movies for theaters and shows for Disney+.

Fans will get to see favorite characters return like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cassian Andor, and Ahsoka Tano. But they’ll also learn new stories that take place in parts of the Star Wars universe we haven’t seen before. After over 40 years of movies, it’s clear the franchise still has great new ideas.

In the next few years, it will be exciting to see how directors like Taika Waititi, James Mangold, and Patty Jenkins put their own spin on the classic space adventure. Meanwhile, producers Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Leslye Headland will keep expanding the Star Wars lore with Disney+ shows focused on new characters and times.

Disney has announced movie release dates planned all the way until 2027. This shows they want to keep putting out Star Wars films regularly. The company is using movies, TV shows, and connecting their stories across different ways to watch. Fans will have new Star Wars content from Disney on a regular basis on their platforms.

After Disney bought Lucasfilm, the franchise grew very quickly. Now that the Skywalker Saga wrapped up, Lucasfilm is focusing on standalone stories not directly connected to the main episodes. This lets Star Wars go in fresh new directions without being tied to what came before.

It looks like the next chapter of Star Wars will be great as both beloved and new characters explore uncharted parts of the galaxy. While nothing may replace icons like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, the franchise is setting up the next wave of Star Wars legends. Fans will enjoy all the exciting projects coming from Lucasfilm as the Force stays strong with them. Stay tuned to see which upcoming Star Wars movies and shows we are looking forward to.

The Big Screen Beckons with New Star Wars Movies

While The Mandalorian TV show was a big hit, movies are still the main way new Star Wars stories are told in the galaxy far away. Lucasfilm is working on several films coming to theaters that will bring fresh ideas to the franchise along with old fan favorites.

After the Skywalker story wrapped up, Lucasfilm focused on Disney+ shows for a while instead of movies. But Star Wars is getting ready to come back to the big screen very soon. Lucasfilm hired some talented directors to make new films, each putting their own spin on Star Wars.

Taika Waititi Star Wars Movie

One film is being made by Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. He’s co-writing the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns from the movie 1917. This is expected to be the next Star Wars movie after taking a break.

Details are secret for now, but Waititi’s known for humor in his movies so there will likely be laughs. He also said the film will explore new places we haven’t seen before. Waititi balances comedy and emotion well, so fans can expect heart too.

The tone and setting will be different from past Star Wars. As someone with great storytelling skills who makes characters feel real, Waititi will create a tale that means a lot while adding his unique voice. Fans are excited to see the fresh spin he puts on the beloved franchise when it premieres.

Taika Waititi Star Wars Movie

James Mangold’s Film About the First Jedi

James Mangold, who directed Logan and Ford v Ferrari, is working on a new Star Wars movie that will take fans back to the very beginning of the Jedi Order. Set 25,000 years before Luke Skywalker, it will show how the first Jedi knights started and discovered the Force.

Mangold said the film will feel like an epic Bible story exploring the origins of the Jedi. Fans will learn about the earliest Jedi ancestors trying to understand the mysteries of the Force. The Star Wars mythology will expand into a time period never seen on screen before.

As the first Star Wars film set entirely in the distant past, away from Darth Vader and the Emperor, there are lots of story possibilities. Mangold is sure to bring a powerful and dramatic vision to the Jedi origin tale. This will be Star Wars like we’ve never seen, chronicling how the first Jedi heroes began who paved the way for everything to come.

Dave Filoni’s Movie Tying Together Star Wars Shows

For the first time, Dave Filoni will direct a Star Wars movie. Filoni is an executive producer who has worked closely with George Lucas. He created popular animated shows like The Clone Wars.

Filoni will connect characters from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ahsoka show in a big new film. Having expanded Star Wars well through Disney+ shows, Filoni will now bring his talents to the theater.

The movie will take place between the original and sequel trilogies when the Republic rebuild after the Empire fell. There are great stories to tell as heroes like Mando, Ahsoka, and Boba Fett help shape the future after Return of the Jedi.

For fans of the Disney+ shows, Filoni’s movie is super exciting. Seeing these characters unite on the big screen for an epic connected story will be a major Star Wars event. With Filoni in charge of the plot, the franchise is in good hands.

Streaming the Stars: New Star Wars Shows on Disney+

While new Star Wars movies come to theaters, the small screen on Disney+ will keep expanding the franchise too. Several exciting Star Wars shows are in the works that will bring new stories and favorite characters to living rooms.

Live-action and animation shows will explore places in Star Wars we haven’t seen before. Disney+ has proven to be a great place for fresh Star Wars storytelling. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor attracted many viewers, showing how people want more shows on streaming.

The new shows coming up promise to continue that and build connected plots across movies and TV. Disney+ is perfect for serialized Star Wars tales that unfold over seasons. Audiences are eager to learn more about the mythology and characters through these episode adventures.

The Acolyte

One of the most mysterious upcoming Star Wars shows is called The Acolyte. It’s from writer/director Leslye Headland and set 100 years before The Phantom Menace. The Acolyte will take place when the Jedi Order was at its strongest, during the High Republic era.

Nt much is known about the plot, but it’s described as a mystery thriller that will reveal dark secrets and hidden powers emerging in the galaxy. With a name hinting at secret Force users, this looks to delve into shadowy parts of the mythology.

Leslye Headland proved she can craft complex, genre-mixing stories as the creator of Russian Doll. The Acolyte seems like a great match for her skills as a trailblazing TV show boss. And with the High Republic era unexplored, Headland has an interesting Star Wars world to tell this sinister-sounding tale in.

The Acolyte

Skeleton Crew

For a different take on Star Wars, Jon Watts, who directed Spider-Man: No Way Home, is making a show called Skeleton Crew. It stars Jude Law and has a fun, coming-of-age feel centered on 10-year-old kids lost in space trying to find their way home.

Watts has cited classic 80s adventure movies like The Goonies as inspiration. This looks to be a colorful, enjoyable Star Wars story from a fresh point of view – kids embarking on an exciting space adventure and probably getting in over their heads!

With its misfit characters and lighter tone, Skeleton Crew seems poised to bring a sense of wonder to Star Wars like Steven Spielberg movies. It should feel nostalgic while exploring the galaxy in a new graphical way. Watts and Law are an exciting team to lead this tale of exciting space mysteries seen through kids’ eyes.

Lando

Smooth-talking scoundrel Lando Calrissian will star in his own Disney+ series just called Lando. Donald Glover will play Lando again as he did in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Details are secret but it will focus on Lando’s early days as a charming gambler who became a Rebel hero.

There are endless possibilities for high-stakes adventures with a young Lando as he works his way across shady parts of the galaxy. With Donald Glover’s great charisma, this series promises to be a stylish, fun space adventure fitting for its exciting lead.

A Lando movie was originally discussed after Solo, but Disney+ gives more time to explore the story. Lando’s smooth yet morally gray view provides rich story potential. Whatever galactic situation Lando finds himself in, it will surely be an exciting ride.

More Star Wars Stories Waiting in the Wings

Besides the big Star Wars movies and shows already talked about, Lucasfilm has more projects in very early stages too. Not much is known yet about these since they just started.

But the fact that Lucasfilm is working on so many Star Wars stories for both theaters and Disney+ shows how much the franchise keeps growing. Even though these projects are just beginning, they give an idea of the different types of tales being made for the future.

It gives a peek into all the ideas Lucasfilm wants to explore as more is created. Fans get a sense of the many possibilities developers are thinking about as Star Wars expands further.

Rian Johnson Star Wars Trilogy

Before making his hit movies Knives Out, director Rian Johnson was chosen to make a whole new Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm. He was meant to introduce new characters and unexplored parts of the galaxy. Johnson’s ideas would bring new life to Star Wars without being tied to past storylines.

But with Johnson focused on Knives Out sequels now, his Star Wars trilogy is on hold for the time being. However, since he proved he can make mystery movies audiences love, he has the creative talent to eventually give fans an exciting new Star Wars saga. When Johnson has free time again in his schedule, we may still get to see three more of his imaginative Star Wars films.

Rian Johnson Star Wars Trilogy

Kevin Feige Star Wars Movie

In an exciting team-up, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, was announced as making his own Star Wars film. Feige was brought on to share his skills at making hugely popular movies for the Star Wars galaxy after creating the Marvel movies. Fans were curious to see Feige’s take on Star Wars.

But there hasn’t been new info in a while. Feige seems more concerned with upcoming Marvel projects like the Multiverse Saga. It looks like his Star Wars film plans are on hold for now as Marvel is his main focus. Even so, the idea of Feige directing a Star Wars movie is still very interesting. Hopefully it happens eventually.

Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron

Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman, was set to direct a movie called Rogue Squadron about fighter pilots, aiming for 2023. But recently it seems this project hit issues between Jenkins and Lucasfilm over creative differences.

With Jenkins now focused on other films after Wonder Woman 3 ended, Rogue Squadron’s future is unclear. Whether it gets restarted with Jenkins or a new director, it will need to be redesigned after this setback. For now Rogue Squadron is grounded, but that doesn’t mean it won’t take off eventually.

While none of these projects are fully formed yet, their existence shows Lucasfilm wants to keep exploring new areas in Star Wars. Any one could speed into production when the time is right. The future possibilities are endless for adventures from the galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars Projects That Never Saw the Light

While Lucasfilm is working on lots of movies, not every Star Wars film actually gets made. Over the years, some really exciting projects have been announced but then not happened.

Changing plans for the story and priorities at Lucasfilm have stopped many potential movies that once seemed promising. What Star Wars movies get made keeps changing as things evolve. Even if projects stall now, there’s still a chance some could restart in the future.

Weiss and Benioff Trilogy

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were chosen to make a 3-part Star Wars series after GoT ended. But they signed with Netflix in 2019 instead and left Star Wars. Their plans were canceled.

They seemed like good picks since GoT had complex storytelling. But with Netflix their focus, their Star Wars vision didn’t happen. That trilogy idea faded away.

Obi-Wan Film

At first, director Stephen Daldry was making a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi movie about his exile. But it became an Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series with Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan.

While Daldry’s movie concept never came, fans still got to see more of McGregor as old Obi-Wan in live-action on streaming.

Boba Fett Film

James Mangold was set to direct a Boba Fett movie following Solo. But like Obi-Wan, this shifted to The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett shows on Disney+.

Temuera Morrison was able to play Fett across multiple episodes instead of just a single film. So these ideas found new life as streaming shows.

Boba Fett Film

The Expansive Universe of Star Wars

The movies and shows discussed here talk about what’s next soon for Star Wars. But Star Wars is actually way bigger when you include other types of content too.

There are books, comics, video games, virtual reality experiences at theme parks, and more. Devoted fans who explore all the stories across different forms find endless adventures from the galaxy far, far away.

The whole fictional universe is full of stories – both major ones and about obscure characters. Books bring time periods like the High Republic era vividly to life. Comics follow characters like Darth Vader and Doctor Aphra on their own missions. Video games let you jump directly into Star Wars worlds and join battles.

While movies and shows are the biggest new parts of Star Wars, they just show one area it exists in. The whole fictional world lets the saga stretch beyond that into fun stories you can read or play a role in.

Fans looking for all that Star Wars offers just need to see what creative minds are sharing across every type of media. The galaxy will keep growing as long as new tales are told within it.

The Force Awakens the Future of Star Wars

The Star Wars movies and shows coming soon promise thrilling new journeys across the galaxy. Both big and small screens have exciting projects expanding the beloved sci-fi saga.

Individual directors like Taika Waititi, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni will put their unique spins on Star Wars while exploring uncharted areas. Their films represent a fresh era.

Disney+ series from creative showrunners like Leslye Headland and Jon Watts will tell engaging Star Wars stories on streaming. Fan favorites like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Lando Calrissian also get their own shows.

Together, the theater and streaming projects aim to balance favorite characters with completely new tales. This mixes past and future in the next Star Wars phase.

Of course, plans can change as some announced films get canceled while others become shows. But Lucasfilm seems dedicated to blockbuster movies and compelling Disney+ adventures.

One thing is for sure – Star Wars fans won’t lack new galactic stories arriving in coming years. The franchise provides a steady stream of films and shows to satisfy cravings.

From past heroes to undiscovered worlds, Star Wars keeps finding tales across its endless space. As long as the Force remains strong, Star Wars lives on as boundless imagination. The future looks bright.
