Cult of the Lamb, the wildly popular indie roguelike from Massive Monster and Devolver Digital, is receiving a massive free content update this summer. Titled the “Unholy Alliance”, the update arrives on August 12th and will introduce local cooperative multiplayer to the dark cult management sim.
In the Unholy Alliance update, a second player can join the unholy crusade by taking control of a newly playable character – the Goat. While one player guides the lamb cult leader, the other will inhabit the role of this “wicked new ally” who was summoned by blood and born in corruption.
Together, the two players can venture forth on co-op dungeon crawling runs to slay heretical enemies and collect new weapons, tarot cards, curses, and relics. The lamb and goat characters will be able to swap gear, deal synchronized critical hits, and even gain bonuses for fighting back-to-back.
Popular single-player activities like fishing and knucklebones will also receive new two-player spins, allowing the cult leaders to cooperatively participate in those minigames as well. And in between their crusades, both players can combine forces to expand their cult’s village by constructing new buildings and homes for their followers.
But the Unholy Alliance is not just about multiplayer. Solo cult leaders will also receive a wealth of new content, including additional powers, abilities, tarot cards, relics, buildings types, follower traits and quests, and other unholy secrets to uncover.
Since its launch last year, Cult of the Lamb has developed a devout following among gamers owing to its wickedly dark premise married with engaging roguelike gameplay and an adorably cute art style. The Unholy Alliance promises to offer existing cult members more reasons to praise the game, while giving new players a chance to indoctrinate a friend into the fold.
