Obsidian Seemingly Leaks Avowed’s November 2024 Release Date, Then Pulls It

Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG Avowed appeared to have its release date of November 12th, 2024 unintentionally disclosed on the company's website before being swiftly removed.

Fans eagerly awaiting the launch of Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming fantasy RPG Avowed were briefly treated to a release date reveal, before the developer quickly reversed course. Following yesterday’s fresh look at Avowed during the Xbox Games Showcase, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Obsidian’s website had updated with a November 12th, 2024 release date for the game. However, that date was soon scrubbed from the site.

A screenshot circulating online captures the unintentional leak, with Obsidian’s blog post initially stating: “The last few months at Obsidian Entertainment have been fast-paced and exciting as we gear up for Avowed’s launch on November 12th, 2024.” That line was subsequently amended to remove the November 12th release date mention entirely.

While possible the date was simply an older target that was mistakenly published, the November 12th, 2024 window aligns with expectations that Avowed would arrive before the end of this year. Obsidian has been adamant the highly anticipated RPG is on track to launch in 2024 for Xbox and PC platforms.

The new Avowed trailer from the showcase highlighted the game’s gritty, first-person fantasy world of Eora, which was first introduced in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity franchise. As an envoy from the distant land of Aedyr, players are sent to investigate a spreading plague ravaging the uncharted wilderness of the Living Lands, an island steeped in ancient secrets.

Obsidian describes Avowed as delivering “danger and adventure, choices and consequences” as players unravel their personal connection to these mysterious lands. The gripping story trailer teased epic high-fantasy action, formidable foes, and sprawling environments to explore.

While the apparent November 12th leak may have been unintentional, it does suggest Avowed remains on course for a late 2024 debut as one of the year’s most anticipated RPG releases. Barring any last-minute delays, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can likely pencil in a November arrival for their journey to the Living Lands.

Obsidian has undoubtedly been hard at work putting the finishing touches on Avowed in recent months. Whether November 12th ultimately holds as the official release date or not, fans starved for a new-gen fantasy RPG seemingly won’t have much longer to wait to unravel the secrets shrouding the lands of Eora.
