While Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2024 was naturally focused on painting an exciting future for the Xbox ecosystem, PlayStation fans also had plenty to look forward to. At least 13 of the titles showcased during the high-profile event are confirmed for release on the PlayStation 5 console.
Leading the cross-platform charge are several heavy-hitters from major publishers. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows arrives on November 15th, while Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 storms onto PS5 on October 25th. BioWare’s highly anticipated Dragon Age: The Veilguard and id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages will both make their way to Sony’s latest console in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
Indie fans can also rejoice, as a host of intriguing smaller titles are headed to the PS5. The mind-bending Clair Obscur: Expeditions 33, stylish action game Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, and Life Is Strange: Double Exposure will all grace the platform. The new MechaBreak and WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers were additional indie highlights.
Existing PlayStation hits are even getting new content. Fallout 76’s Skyline Valley update hits on June 12th, while Sea of Thieves will sail onto its 13th season starting July 25th. An unexpected addition is the revealing of a new Metal Gear Solid game subtitled Delta: Snake Eater, though a release date was not provided.
While Microsoft has yet to confirm definitive plans for its first-party Xbox offerings, Head of Gaming Phil Spencer did note the company’s increased willingness to bring more games to other platforms going forward. This could open the door for major releases like Fable, State of Decay 3, and South of Midnight to potentially make their way to PS5 down the line.
For now, PlayStation fans have an enviable multi-platform slate to look forward to from the Xbox event. From blockbuster franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty to promising new IPs like Mixtape and Atomfall, the lines between the Xbox and PlayStation ecosystems continue to blur in a game industry pushing towards increased consolidation.
