Ubisoft’s free-to-play FPS XDefiant is revving up for its first full season of content. After a successful preseason launch period, the game will shift into another gear when Season 1 goes live globally on Tuesday, July 2nd.
The marquee addition is the introduction of a new playable faction straight from Ubisoft’s popular Rainbow Six: Siege – GSK (Gruppe für Spezielle Kräfte). Three iconic operators will join XDefiant’s roster: Bandit, Jäger, and the unmistakable riot shield-wielding Blitz. Their signature abilities like Jäger’s ADS and Blitz’s blinding shield make the leap as well.
“Summer’s got nothing on the heat XDefiant is bringing in Season 1,” Ubisoft teased of the highly-anticipated Rainbow Six crossover happening on July 2.
But the R6 crew isn’t the only new content coming. A total of three fresh maps set in varied locales like a gritty biker clubhouse, neon-lit racetrack, and shopping mall playground will cycle out over the season’s three monthly updates. Three new free weapons including a sniper rifle and shotgun expand the arsenal too.
Fans can also look forward to an all-new game mode – Capture the Flag. More critically, XDefiant’s full-fledged ranked play experience will finally deploy after being limited to a trial version during the preseason.
Rounding out the Season 1 offerings are the standard additions like new cosmetics, weapon skins, mastery progression tracks, and seasonal store bundles.
The influx of content arrives at an opportune time for XDefiant. While the game doesn’t share player counts publicly, the online sentiment suggests a solid start buoyed by the Season 1 reveal gaining excitement.
One Redditor stated the game “appears to continue to move in the right direction” based on what’s been shown so far.
With Season 1 looming and a gameplay showcase planned for July 1st, XDefiant is aiming to build momentum amid increasingly crowded shooter competition later this year like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s launch.
By fusing innovative new content with beloved franchise crossovers, Ubisoft hopes to provide a constant stream of fresh reasons for players to jump into the free-to-play fray throughout 2024 and beyond. Season 1’s launch on July 2nd looks to be fuel for XDefiant’s bright future.
