The upcoming big screen adaptation of the popular crime drama series “Peaky Blinders” has added Irish actor Barry Keoghan to its starring cast. Keoghan, known for roles in films such as “Dunkirk” and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” will star alongside Cillian Murphy, who has played the iconic role of Tommy Shelby throughout the show’s six seasons.
Production on the “Peaky Blinders” movie is expected to begin soon. It will be directed by Tom Harper and written by Steven Knight, the creator of the original series. Knight is best known for crafting the gritty world of Birmingham crime gangs in the early 1900s that was explored across the TV show’s run from 2013 to 2022.
Netflix gave the film official approval in June, exciting loyal fans of the British drama series. While specific plot details are still undisclosed, the movie will continue Murphy’s role as Tommy Shelby. Keoghan’s casting reunited him with Murphy, whom he previously co-starred alongside in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 war epic “Dunkirk.”
In a comment to IndieWire at the Toronto International Film Festival, Keoghan seemed optimistic about the project. “I read the script and loved it and have chatted to Cillian about it and it’s going to be epic,” he said. The actor’s discretion about roles is well-known in the film industry. His praise of the “Peaky Blinders” screenplay carries weight due to his track record in critically acclaimed movies.
Rebecca Ferguson will also appear, adding her talent shown in “Dune” to an already star-studded production. However, full details regarding Keoghan and Ferguson’s characters are currently unreleased. As the film prepares to start production imminently, anticipation continues to build for where Knight’s story leads Murphy’s iconic Tommy Shelby next on the big screen.
