The new Irish road movie “500 Miles” has added three experienced actors to its cast as filming gets underway. The family drama follows two brothers who go on a journey across Ireland to find their estranged grandfather. Irish actress Clare Dunne and British actors Michael Socha and Dexter Sol Ansell have all joined the production.
Dunne is well known for her lead roles in previous Irish films “Herself” and “Kin.” Socha starred in popular television shows like “Once Upon a Time” and “This Is England.” Ansell has an upcoming role in the “Game of Thrones” prequel series. The boys will be played by Bill Nighy as their grandfather and Roman Griffin Davis, who rose to fame in “Jojo Rabbit.” “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams also has a role in the movie.
Directed by Morgan Matthews, whose past works include “X+Y” and “Williams,” the film explores family reconciliation against Ireland’s scenic backdrops. It is a collaboration between Origin Pictures, Port Pictures and Minnow Films with support from several Irish production companies. The story follows two brothers, played by Griffin Davis and Ansell, who run away and travel across land and sea to find their grandfather, portrayed by Nighy, on the rugged coast of Ireland’s west.
British entertainment company True Brit has secured distribution rights for the movie in the UK and Ireland. A spokesperson for True Brit said the movie “is an original, charming and dramatic film with a huge emotional heart that will resonate strongly.” Filming is now starting in Ireland with its experienced cast. With acclaimed talent in front of and behind the camera, alongside a moving story set in beautiful natural locations, “500 Miles” is poised to impact audiences when complete.
The involvement of Williams, known for her “Game of Thrones” role, and the up-and-coming Ansell connects the film to that popular franchise. But their roles here will showcase acting range outside of Westeros. As production continues, movie fans and industry insiders will look forward to seeing how this talented ensemble brings the emotional journey of “500 Miles” to life on the big screen.
