Kirk Medas, known for his role on MTV’s Floribama Shore, died Friday at the age of 33. His father confirmed the cause of death as liver failure following complications from necrotizing pancreatitis and sepsis. Medas had been in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Miami for nearly two weeks before he passed.
Necrotizing pancreatitis is a serious condition in which parts of the pancreas begin to die due to inflammation. In Medas’ case, the illness progressed to sepsis and organ failure. Details regarding the initial cause of the condition have not been made public.
Medas gained national attention as a core cast member on Floribama Shore, a series that debuted in 2017 and followed eight young adults living together in Panama City Beach. The show aired for four seasons, with its most recent episodes airing in 2020. While MTV never officially canceled the program, it has remained inactive since 2022.
Co-stars, friends, and fans have responded to the news with public messages of remembrance. Aimee Hall, who shared four seasons with Medas, posted an emotional tribute on social media, calling him “a brother” and “the glue that held us all together.” She described him as someone with “a heart bigger than this world” and recalled their enduring connection since they began filming together at age 24.
“We talked almost every single day. We worked together, we traveled together, we vacationed together—we did life together,” Hall wrote. She added that she was at the beach when she sensed something had happened, recalling how a dolphin kept appearing near her in the water—something that reminded her of their mutual love for the ocean.
In her account of Medas’ final moments before entering a coma, Hall said, “I told him I loved him, and tears rolled from his eyes. That memory will stay with me forever.”
MTV acknowledged his death in a statement, referring to Medas as “a beloved member of the Floribama Shore family” and expressing condolences to his relatives, friends, and fans.
During his hospitalization, other castmates also shared updates and rallied support. Nilsa Prowant posted a throwback video with Medas and thanked fans for their encouragement. “He’s been in the ICU on a ventilator for two weeks now, fighting necrotizing pancreatitis and sepsis,” she wrote in a message posted before his passing. She expressed appreciation for the donations, prayers, and messages of hope the cast had received from the public.
“Watching someone you love go through something so painful and uncertain is heartbreaking,” Prowant wrote. “His mama is so grateful for every single one of you.”
Medas’ final post on Instagram, dated April 15, showed him on a balcony overlooking Miami. It offered no indication of the illness that would shortly follow.
He was remembered by those close to him for his humor, loyalty, and emotional strength. Hall noted that “the world feels a little dimmer without him,” but she holds onto the belief that she will see him again.
