Rocksteady Studios, known for their groundbreaking work on the Arkham series, is set to add a thrilling twist to the “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” game. The first season, launching in March, will introduce a unique, alternate version of The Joker, an iconic DC character reimagined from the Elseworlds narratives. This Joker isn’t just another character addition; he’s a radical departure from previous incarnations, especially those seen in the Arkham series.

What sets this Joker apart is his unconventional gadget: a rocket-powered umbrella. This tool enables him to propel through the air and glide across cityscapes, a maneuver that adds an exciting dynamic to the gameplay.

The choice of an umbrella is particularly intriguing, as it traditionally belongs to The Penguin, another notorious Batman adversary. This crossover of iconic weapons signals Rocksteady’s intent to blend and reinvent the lore of the DC universe in surprising ways.

Vaudeville Meets Villainy

Rocksteady aims to root this version of The Joker in his vaudevillian origins, as reflected in his visual design and gameplay animations. Far from a mere aesthetic choice, this design philosophy extends to his combat style: theatrical, explosive, and acrobatically engaging. Such an approach not only enriches the character but also offers players a distinct gameplay experience, differentiating this Joker from other playable characters in the game.

The expansion doesn’t stop with The Joker. Season 1 also introduces a new map themed after the Clown Prince of Crime, along with two episodes featuring new missions, activities, strongholds, and even fresh boss fights and enemy variants. Additionally, players can look forward to new villain-themed weapons and gear, as well as new content related to The Riddler.

In the broader scope of the game’s development, Seasons 2 through 4 promise to further enrich the experience with three new playable characters, environments, weapons, themed gear sets, and various activities. These updates underscore Rocksteady’s commitment to keeping the game fresh, engaging, and, most importantly, free of additional charges.

A Commitment to Players

In response to criticisms of the game’s live-service model, Rocksteady has emphasized the free nature of these expansions. Studio director Darius Sadeghian assured that all seasonal content would be permanently accessible, without any gameplay elements locked behind a battle pass. The in-game shop will only feature cosmetic items, aligning with Rocksteady’s player-friendly approach to post-launch content.

As Rocksteady Studios continues to evolve “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” they remain committed to enriching the game’s universe while ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for all players. This new chapter, starting with a reimagined Joker, is a testament to their innovative spirit and dedication to the gaming community.
