Hunt: Showdown, the popular competitive bounty hunting game, is leaving last-generation consoles behind. Developer Crytek announced plans to discontinue support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions on August 15th, 2024, requiring players to upgrade to the newly launched PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S editions.
The transition comes as Crytek prepares a significant engine upgrade to CryEngine 5.11, which will enable enhanced performance and new features exclusively on current-generation hardware. While existing players will need to move to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S to continue playing, they can do so free of charge by claiming the next-gen version.
“Your player accounts and entitlements to Hunt: Showdown and all related DLCs carry up to the new version at no additional cost when you’re ready to make the hardware transition,” assured David Fifield, General Manager for the Hunt franchise.
Beyond just a technical overhaul, the next-gen upgrades for Hunt: Showdown promise exciting new content. A brand-new map is in development, along with an overhauled user interface and UI design. Crytek is also committed to combating cheaters, with increased anti-cheat efforts planned.
For those unable or unwilling to upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series console, August 15th will mark the end of their Hunt on last-gen platforms. While a difficult reality, the overwhelming improvements and future support made possible by focusing on modern hardware ultimately led to Crytek’s decision.
“This summer will usher in a whole new era of Hunt,” stated Fifield. “We’re aware players have many questions, and we’ll be transparently addressing concerns over the coming months through weekly video updates.”
The updates will shed light on the developers’ plans, including the latest anti-cheat measures, an evolved progression system, and more details on the game’s technological advancements. With its ambitious next-gen transition, Hunt: Showdown aims to raise the bar for competitive bounty hunting action.
