Ryan Reynolds’ new Marvel blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine has thrilled audiences with its witty fourth-wall breaks and exploration of the multiverse, but one scene-stealing surprise cameo has set the internet abuzz: Henry Cavill as “The Cavillrine.” In the film, Deadpool jumps between universes seeking a new Wolverine partner after his separation from Hugh Jackman’s iconic Logan. During a montage of Wolverine variants, Cavill delivers an unforgettable comedic twist on the character.
The cameo holds special significance given Cavill’s well-documented history with Warner Bros.’ DC films. From disputes over reshoots of Justice League to the legendary “mustache-gate” controversy, his Superman tenure ended on a sour note.
Director Shawn Levy revealed the idea for “The Cavillrine” originated from Ryan Reynolds, a nod to Cavill’s departure from the DCEU. According to Levy, Cavill said “yes” immediately, relishing the chance for some subversive comedy.
By all accounts, Cavill went above and beyond to immerse himself in the role. To capture Wolverine’s signature gruffness, sources say Cavill kept an unlit cigar firmly in his mouth for the entire eight-hour shoot day, a commitment that left him sick for days after. In a playful social media post, Cavill joked that for safety reasons he shaved off just his mustache for the part.
Fans are now calling for Marvel to sign Cavill up for a future MCU blockbuster after seeing his dedication to the cameo. Whether this is just an cheeky one-off or the start of something bigger remains to be seen – but it’s got the internet buzzing for more of “The Cavillrine.”
