The Chinese company NetEase has acquired Quantic Dream after a three-year partnership with the French studio. It was through the eastern giant that the developers in charge of Detroit: Become Human or Heavy Rain abandoned the release of titles exclusively on Sony consoles.

NetEase took a minority stake in the studio in 2019 which was enough to open it up to the Chinese market, and in the end contributed to the full acquisition just taking place. The transaction amount was not made public.

Quantic Dream, according to the studio’s official statement, will continue to “operate independently, while leveraging NetEase’s significant game development potential.”

\While the brand, which was created and developed in detail by David Cage, is set to remain intact, the acquisition itself is going to reflect positively on gamers.

NetEase values our creative freedom and the passion of our exceptionally diverse team. We will now be able to bring to life the vision of creating everlasting, emotionally moving titles that we share as a group. We are in the midst of creating very diverse games, and I believe the best is yet to come.

Should you be wondering who the new owners of this unique studio are, as of 2022 NetEase has become primarily famous for being the Chinese publisher of Diablo Immortal and the forthcoming title Where The Winds Meet.

The future of Cage’s statements towards equality and inclusion of people from the LGBT+ community, which are not in line with the policy adopted by the People’s Republic of China, is questionable in light of the studio’s takeover by the Chinese giant .

Quantic Dream is now working on Eclipse, an interactive adventure game in the Star Wars universe, and also announced the release of Under the Waves, a story-driven title set in the deep sea from Parallel Studio.
