God of War: Ragnarok is a lengthy game. It is not only the story that is taking its time to offer us an amazing journey, but new gameplay mechanics which are constantly being brought into the game.
As a result, it was pointed out that the Norse saga may well have been composed of three titles, and not two. Bruno Velázquez, animation director of God of War Ragnarok, has recently spoke about the game with the Atomix website.
During the conversation with Velazquez, he was asked how Sony agreed to close this chapter in the life of Kratos with just two games, and not three. This is what he told:
“Sony has always been supportive since the Greek Age games, they gave us creative freedom, and that continues with Ragnarok. We wanted to pursue the 2018 story, but we also wanted to conclude it, and we were thinking that if we did it in two games, it would take us about 10 years, as each game takes about four on average.
With the 2018 game we had a good base, we didn’t have to start from scratch and it’s a similar process to 2005’s God of War and the second installment, and we could add a lot more.
We wanted to wrap up the story, deliver on the promise of visiting all nine realms, adding more bosses and battles, and more combat options. We wanted to do everything, and we thank Sony for letting us.”
In this way, it is evident that the team had always planned to finish the Norse story with Ragnarok, and while a third installment was under consideration, the developers decided to offer a great product, rather than making us wait several years to see the end of this chapter.
