With Modern Warfare II having grossed $1 billion in sales in ten days, Activision is now gearing up to further cash in with the release of Warzone 2.0’s first season.
The battle royale experience is expected to maintain its free-to-play monetization model and will include several new features, including a new extraction mode called DMZ. This first season and its respective battle pass are scheduled to be available on November 16.
The action of Warzone 2.0 is set on the map of Al Mazrah, a city in the United Republic of Ada featuring 18 points of interest. Several of its regions, including Al Bagra Fortress, Embassy, Zarqwa Hydroelectric, Taraq, Sariff Bay and Sa’id, are no strangers to those who have played Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer.
Warzone 2.0’s new features also include custom loadouts, a backpack system to further organize equipment, a new gulag with 2vs2 matchups and a jailer controlled by the AI, and there are two zones called Strongholds and Black Sites where gamers can engage AI fighters.
Additional new features that Warzone 2.0 introduces are: water combat (it is now possible to navigate canals, rivers and the open sea), new vehicles (like the Heavy Chopper and the GMC Hummer EV electric truck), a fuel system (which no longer is unlimited) and the sudden appearance of three circles dividing the scenery. Furthermore, in squad modes there will be the option of interrogating enemies to discover locations.
Regarding DMZ, it is introduced as “a narrative-focused open-world extraction mode where Operators alone or in squads have absolute freedom to complete faction missions, take on additional secondary objectives, engage enemy Operators or AI combatants, and search for valuable items, all while fighting for survival towards exfiltration.”
The DMZ mode features many of the new features of Warzone 2.0, such as the new backpack system and interrogations.
After the launch of Warzone 2.0 the original Warzone is to be re-released as Warzone Caldera. It will be a standalone experience and will keep all existing player progression, battle pass content and further in-game purchases.
As for the Modern Warfare II multiplayer, its first season will introduce two new maps called Shoot House (available from launch) and Shipment (for the middle of the season). Furthermore, Special Ops will be getting a new mission (High Ground) and the first episode of Raids.
And finally, let’s not forget about the new Battle Pass, the new Operators and the Modern Warfare FC event that will allow you to sign special operators such as Neymar Jr, Paul Pogba and Leo Messi for a limited time.
