No Man’s Sky, the popular space exploration game, has released a new update called Interceptor, just six weeks after its previous update, Fractal.

With this update, Hello Games has expanded the game with new content related to the Sentinels, offering players a fresh set of challenges and rewards.

The Interceptor update, version 4.2, is available now for free on all platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Once downloaded, players will be able to experience a whole new world of gameplay.

Sentinel planets, once peaceful and abundant, have now been corrupted by strange purple crystals, and the Sentinels are not pleased.

The update brings new types of Sentinels, including robot-like guardians that target players with flamethrowers and spider-like enemies that lurk around corners, making exploration on these planets even more perilous.

However, the rewards are also greater, as players can now acquire new equipment like the Aeron jetpack and Sentinel multi-tools, and take advantage of the new Sentinel ships and their technology. The game also features graphical and performance improvements, including for PlayStation VR2 mode.

The update includes many new features and improvements. Here are some of the most notable:

New Sentinel Interceptor Ships

Hostile Sentinel interceptor starships are now procedurally generated from a wide variety of parts. Players can track down and repair a crashed Sentinel interceptor to claim it for their own fleet. A unique repair mission has been added to guide players through the salvage process.

There are a variety of ways to locate a downed interceptor, including destroying a Sentinel capital ship, completing a bespoke story encounter, defeating new corrupted Sentinel planetary forces, or via mysterious new abandoned encampments.

Corrupted Sentinel Planets

Some planets that previously generated extreme Sentinels have now become corrupted worlds. These planets have their own unique array of planetary Sentinel forces and are home to dissonance resonators, strange extraction machines guarded by corrupted Sentinels.

Corrupted Sentinel planets also have their own unique resources and objects, and new refiner recipes have been added for corrupted Sentinel resources.

Combat Improvements

A number of improvements have been made to the locomotion system for Sentinel Quadrupeds, reducing visual glitches and jittering. Sentinel Quadrupeds are now more mobile in combat, moving frequently and making better use of their pounce and jump attacks. Corrupted Sentinel drones have been reworked visually, can heal each other, and make better use of cover.

Corrupted drones now choose from a range of weaponry, including rapid-fire projectiles, a close-range blaster, long-distance grenades, and a flamethrower. A new large ground-based corrupted Sentinel unit has also been added.

VR Enhancements

Players using VR can now customise the position of their wrist and multi-tool projector menus. An option has been added to allow VR players to choose between base-building holograms being shown based on where they are looking or where they are pointing.

VR players can also change the behaviour of the flight stick and switch between yaw/roll axes. The wrist projector menus now instantly disappear, allowing players to use their multi-tool immediately after changing weapon mode.

Custom Wonders

A new section has been added to the Wonders catalogue called “Personal Records.” This feature allows players to assign any planet, creature, flora, or mineral discovery to its own custom wonder category, with a player-chosen name.

These personal records can be assigned from within the catalogue or directly from any of the discovery pages.

Other Improvements

The Interceptor update includes several rendering and memory optimizations, including dynamic resolution scaling for all Xbox platforms and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 technology.

The game also features significant improvements to image quality in PSVR2, as well as a loading/warp time optimization for PlayStation 5, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

The UI has also received a few improvements, such as a more informative error message when unable to repair a selected item and highlighted inventory slot animation for technologies that are ready to repair.

Overall, the Interceptor update brings a lot of exciting new content and improvements to No Man’s Sky. With its corrupted Sentinel planets and new ships, weapons, and equipment, players will have even more reasons to explore the vast universe of No Man’s Sky.

The update is available for free, so players can jump right in and start their journey to the stars. So gear up, take off, and explore the galaxy in No Man’s Sky’s latest Interceptor update.
