Just a few days ago, Mortal Kombat 1 made its official debut with a jaw-dropping CGI trailer that showcased the pinnacle of gore in the entire video game industry.

Amidst the blood-soaked spectacle, fans caught glimpses of the renowned fighters that have come to define the NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros Games series. Barring any last-minute changes, these beloved characters are expected to be available in the final game when it hits store shelves this September.

Decades of Iconic Fighters in Mortal Kombat

Throughout its illustrious 30-year history, the Mortal Kombat franchise has introduced gamers to a plethora of memorable fighters. Characters like Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero have not only made their mark within the games but have also become recognizable through various film adaptations.

Now, with the unveiling of Mortal Kombat 1, it appears that some of these iconic warriors are ready to step back into the arena.

Finish Him!: Mortal Kombat 1’s Rebooted Storyline

The Mortal Kombat 1 presentation trailer confirmed the rumors that this new installment would serve as a reboot, following the events of Mortal Kombat 11’s story.

We witness Liu Kang, now a god, creating a new reality with alternate versions of the series’ most renowned fighters. This shift in the narrative sets the stage for an epic clash between familiar faces.

The Confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 Fighters

Thus far, nine fighters have been confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1:

  • Liu Kang
  • Raiden
  • Kung Lao
  • Sub-Zero
  • Scorpion
  • Kitana
  • Mileena
  • Shang Tsung
  • Johnny Cage

These characters make appearances throughout the Mortal Kombat 1 presentation trailer, including notable moments such as Kitana and Mileena’s encounter in the royal carriage, Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s meeting, and Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Raiden’s confrontation with Shang Tsung, who hails from another dimension. The trailer sets the stage for intense Mortal Kombat action, culminating in Liu Kang’s ruthless defeat of Shang Tsung.

Unveiling the Final Piece: Johnny Cage

Mortal Kombat 1

While Johnny Cage does not make an appearance in the trailer, he has been officially confirmed as a playable fighter through the Mortal Kombat website FAQ.

This brings the total number of confirmed fighters to nine. However, the developers tantalize fans with the promise of “many others,” leaving room for speculation and excitement about potential surprises in store.

Prepare for the Ultimate Battle

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who pre-order the game will gain access to the beta in August.

The pre-order, which has been leaked by Amazon, will also provide exclusive access to five guest characters: Quan Chi, Omni Man, Ermac, Takeda, Peacemaker, and Homelander. As the release date draws near, anticipation builds for the epic clash of iconic fighters that awaits players in the realm of Mortal Kombat 1.
