In an unexpected twist, the most favored class in the upcoming Diablo 4 game has been unveiled. The revelation might catch some ardent fans off guard, as it does not crown the widely loved Necromancer.
Diablo’s general manager, Rod Fergusson, dropped the bombshell during a fan interaction, revealing that “the Sorcerer/Sorceress” holds the crown as the most played class in Diablo 4 at the moment. Fergusson hinted that his marketing team might not be thrilled with him letting the cat out of the bag. However, once spilled, the beans cannot be unspilled.
The Unforeseen Leader: The Sorcerer/Sorceress
Even for a seasoned player, Fergusson’s revelation might raise eyebrows. Granted, the leaderboard may shuffle as the game progresses, but the current indication of the Sorcerer taking the lead defies certain expectations.
In the Diablo 4 dash to level 100, the Rogue and Barbarian have been the fan-favorites among standard classes. Nevertheless, the Sorcerer has begun to make its presence felt in the hardcore competition.
The Popularity Versus Brand Strength Debate
While the Sorcerer’s rising popularity is intriguing, it’s worth remembering that mere popularity doesn’t always translate to brand strength. Alternatives to the Sorceress, such as the Necromancer and the Druid, pack a strong punch in this regard.
A quick look at the replies under Fergusson’s tweets shows a horde of Necromancer and Druid aficionados expressing their fondness for these classes. Interestingly, Fergusson conceded that he had “no arguments” against players championing the Necromancer as the superior class.
A case can certainly be made for the Necromancer and its ability to control a horde of minions, especially when they can inadvertently aid in slaying foes like The Butcher.
However, personal preferences play a significant role, and for some, like myself, the Druid holds a special place. Perhaps, it all boils down to the fact that deep down, I’m truly a wolf person.
