In the aftermath of The Super Mario Bros. Movie smashing records, the buzz in the entertainment industry is that another beloved Nintendo franchise may be headed for the silver screen.
The Legend of Zelda, a long-standing favorite among gamers, is reportedly on the docket for a movie adaptation, in collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Studios.
The Nintendo-Universal Alliance Continues
Jeff Sneider, a well-known journalist, spilled the beans on The Hot Mic podcast, stating that Universal Studios is in the final stages of a “big deal” with Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Sneider emphasized that Zelda appears to be the next major collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo, a prospect many had anticipated. “I’m told that it’s happening,” Sneider added, fueling the fire of anticipation.
The thriving partnership between Nintendo and Universal Studios comes as no surprise, considering the phenomenal success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
With a worldwide gross of $1.3 billion, the film not only stands as the highest-grossing movie of 2023 so far but also boasts the most successful opening weekend for an animated movie.
The film showcased a stellar voice cast, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. Given this, we can likely anticipate a similar lineup of A-list talent should a Zelda movie come to fruition.
The Legend of Zelda’s Epic Tale
The Legend of Zelda franchise charts the thrilling adventures of Link, an elf-like Hylian, and Princess Zelda. They battle to safeguard their kingdom, Hyrule, from the sinister warlord Ganon.
Since the original Legend of Zelda game burst onto the scene in 1986, the franchise has added 19 titles to its collection, with the latest release, Tears of the Kingdom, hitting the market this year.
