Renowned director James Cameron has taken to social media to address the recent rumors suggesting his involvement in a project about the OceanGate submersible disaster.
Responding to a story published by British tabloid The Sun, Cameron clarified that he is not in talks for any OceanGate film, expressing his disapproval of such offensive rumors.
The OceanGate Submersible Disaster
In June, news broke about the OceanGate submersible, named Titan, which went missing during its journey to explore the Titanic wreck deep beneath the ocean’s surface. Tragically, the sub imploded approximately two hours into its trip, resulting in the loss of all five passengers onboard.
Among the victims were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, businessman Hamish Harding, and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
Cameron’s Expertise and Response
James Cameron, known for his deep-sea diving accomplishments and extensive knowledge of the Titanic, addressed the disaster in various interviews.
As someone who has visited the Titanic wreck 33 times and completed a solo dive to Challenger Deep, the deepest point on the ocean floor, Cameron shared his insights on the incident. However, the rumors suggesting his involvement in an OceanGate film are categorically denied by the director himself.
Currently, James Cameron is fully immersed in the production of the highly anticipated Avatar sequels. While Avatar 3 has been delayed to 2025, followed by Avatar 4 in 2026 and Avatar 5 in 2028, the director remains committed to expanding the epic sci-fi franchise.
