GTA VI Dashes PC Hopes With Next-Gen Only Confirmation

The highly anticipated next entry in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series finally received its first official trailer over the weekend, confirming a 2025 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, conspicuously missing from the announced platforms was any mention of a PC version, leaving that massive fanbase wondering if history is doomed to repeat itself.

In a series unfortunately known for delaying PC ports, many hoped Rockstar would break tradition by launching GTA VI across all platforms simultaneously. But Sunday’s press release doubling down on next-gen only puts such optimism in jeopardy.

Years-Long Waits Precedent for PC Fans

Both 2008’s GTA IV and the record-breaking 2013 smash hit GTA V forced PC gamers to endure lengthy delays before receiving their versions. GTA V in particular remains one of the most egregious examples, hitting PCs a staggering two years after PS3 and Xbox 360.

Red Dead Redemption 2 continued the frustration with its own one year post-console arrival on PC in 2019. And now GTA VI seems destined to extend this perplexing pattern of snubbing such a huge chunk of the gaming market at launch.

While undoubtedly disheartening, history says eventual PC support is likely. But with 2025 fast approaching, when precisely that might happen is anyone’s guess right now. And with each passing day, the hopes of PC gamers dim just a little bit more.
