The PlayStation Portal, Sony’s latest addition to the handheld gaming world, has recently been the subject of much curiosity regarding its internal build, especially concerning the dreaded issue of stick drift. Fortunately, for those worried about this common problem, the PlayStation Portal appears to offer a surprisingly user-friendly solution.

Unlike the traditional Dualsense controllers, where stick drift can be a significant hassle due to the need for soldering to replace thumb sticks, the PlayStation Portal presents a much more straightforward approach. This ease of repair is a boon for gamers, particularly those who might not be skilled in intricate electronic repairs.

A detailed teardown by Ifixit, shared via The Verge, has revealed that the thumb sticks of the PlayStation Portal can be replaced by simply removing a few screws and a connector. This design choice not only makes the PlayStation Portal more accessible for repairs but also distinguishes it from other handheld devices in terms of maintainability.

The internal design of the PlayStation Portal somewhat resembles a modern tablet, with a large battery and a relatively small motherboard. Most of the internal components are easily removable, although it’s worth noting that the Portal’s rumble motors are soldered to the board, which could complicate potential repairs in that area.

Despite the relative ease of fixing stick drift issues, it’s always advisable to approach any device repair with caution. While the PlayStation Portal makes the job less complicated, it’s still recommended that those unsure of their technical skills seek professional help for repairs.

Embrace the Holiday Spirit: “Get ready to be swept away by a heartwarming holiday adventure perfect for the whole family. Dive into our Teddy’s Christmas Review and discover why this charming Norwegian film is a must-watch this festive season.”

For many gamers, the challenge right now might be more about getting their hands on the PlayStation Portal, given its high demand. However, the knowledge that potential stick drift issues can be easily addressed might provide an added incentive to purchase the device once it becomes more widely available, especially considering the more complex repair process required for the original Dualsense controllers.

If you haven’t yet decided if you want to buy PlayStation Portal or not, you can read comprehensive PlayStation Portal review to see if it is worth buying or not.
