Atari, in collaboration with developer Llamasoft, has announced the launch of their psychedelic arcade game “Akka Arrh” for PlayStation 5, with an enhanced experience specifically tailored for PlayStation VR2, coming this March. This release follows the game’s initial launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam on February 21, 2023.

“Akka Arrh,” already known for its unique gameplay and visual appeal, is set to transcend traditional gaming experiences with its upcoming PlayStation VR2 version. This new rendition of the game promises to break the boundaries of its original 2D constraints, offering a more immersive and intuitive gameplay experience in virtual reality.

Players will be transported into Jeff Minter’s hypnotic universe, a surreal world where the action unfolds in a rich 3D landscape. The game’s layers of techno-infused action, previously compressed within a 2D space, will now be experienced in a full 3D environment. This transformation allows players to step inside the chaos and engage with every element of the game in an unprecedented manner, offering a sensory odyssey unmatched by its previous versions.

Gameplay Dynamics and Features

In “Akka Arrh,” players are in control of a command center tasked with destroying oncoming enemies. The gameplay revolves around bombs that trigger chain reactions to defeat enemies, with players accumulating bullets to maintain their multiplier. This unique shooter challenges players to strategize and time their shots perfectly to maximize their high score.

Key features of the game include:

  • Virtual Reality Bliss: Experience the unique blend of retro-inspired action in virtual reality, offering a fully engulfing gaming experience.
  • Simple Yet Engaging Mechanics: Jump straight into action with gameplay centered around combos, high scores, and survival.
  • Neon-Infused Chaos: Create massive chains of enemy explosions to accumulate ammo for precision shots, keeping your combo and rings (life force) protected.
  • A Journey Through Levels: Navigate through 50 unique levels, with the option to start from the beginning or pick up where you left off.
  • Accessibility Options: Acknowledging the diverse needs of players, “Akka Arrh” includes options to disable intense visual effects, making the game accessible to a wider audience, including those sensitive to flashing lights.

Akka Arrh

“Akka Arrh” on PS5 and PS VR2 is not just a game; it’s an experience that promises to push the boundaries of arcade gaming into a new realm of virtual reality. With its combination of psychedelic visuals, engaging gameplay, and immersive VR capabilities, it is poised to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.

“Blast through waves of enemies in this psychedelic shooter revival with our Akka Arrh review. Explore how a classic game gets a modern twist with vibrant visuals and addictive gameplay that will keep you aiming for high scores.”
