Montreal (AP) – Ubisoft has officially pulled back the curtain on Operation New Blood, the next major season arriving for the popular tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. This upcoming release promises to bring significant changes to nearly every aspect of the game’s ecosystem when it launches on June 11th.
At the center of these updates are two new customizable ‘Operator’ characters modeled after the iconic Recruit archetype – Striker and Sentry. Rather than having predetermined abilities, these versatile operatives will allow players to extensively customize their loadouts by mixing and matching an array of available gadgets and weapons to suit different strategies and roles.
“The new Striker and Sentry are designed as approachable, ‘Swiss Army knife’ operators to introduce players to the deep gameplay mechanics of Siege,” stated Alexandre Remy, Brand Director on Rainbow Six Siege. “Their flexible loadouts encourage experimentation as attackers or defenders.”
Alongside the Operator rework, Operation New Blood will debut Ubisoft’s new ‘Marketplace’ – a secure, peer-to-peer trading system allowing players to buy, sell and trade various cosmetic items using Rainbow Six Credits as currency. However, access will require two-factor authentication and a minimum account level to promote a safe environment.
Other major additions include an ‘Endless Drill’ training mode, expanded options for curating map rotations, upgrades to anti-cheat systems, and the launch of the new ‘R6 Membership’ subscription offering premium cosmetics and gameplay bonuses.
Notable balance adjustments are also on the way, most prominently limiting the abilities of the defending operators Fenrir and Solis, whose potent gadgets had been deemed overpowered in the current meta.
Robert Wyatt, editor of SiegeGG News, believes the changes could revitalize the game: “Operation New Blood has something for everyone – gameplay reworks for freshness, new monetization avenues for sustainability, and world-class anti-cheat for a healthier ecosystem. It’s a turning point for Siege’s lifespan.”
As players eagerly await the arrival of Operation New Blood, one thing is clear – Rainbow Six Siege is gearing up for its most revolutionary update yet as the multiplayer hit’s lifespan extends into a ninth year of live service. Operation New Blood deploys on June 11th for all available platforms.
