Risk of Rain 2, the beloved action roguelike, has received a fresh and exciting update that promises to spice up the gameplay experience for seasoned players and newcomers alike. The Devotion Update, also known as version 1.10, brings a slew of new features, including the ability to hatch lizard companions, deceptive chests that challenge your memory, and a brand-new lush map to explore.
One of the standout additions in this update is the Artifact of Devotion. This artifact replaces drones (turrets and healing bots) with eggs that can hatch into feisty Lemurian companions – small, lizard-like creatures from the game’s universe. To birth these scaly allies, players must sacrifice an item, and if multiple Lemurians are present, the sacrificed item’s benefits will be shared among them. If a Lemurian survives a teleporter event, it will grow stronger, gaining new attributes and an additional stack of the item used to hatch it. However, if a Lemurian perishes, it will drop a scrap of the same tier as the sacrificed item, and the item itself will be removed from the pool, adding an intriguing risk-reward dynamic to the gameplay.
Moreover, the update introduces the Artifact of Delusion, a mischievous modifier that resets all chests once a teleporter event is completed. Players can revisit previously opened chests, but they’ll be presented with three options: the original item, and two decoys. If players can recall the original item, they’ll receive another copy, but if their memory fails them, they’ll lose the item entirely. This devious mechanic adds an exciting layer of mind games and tests players’ ability to remember their loot.
In addition to these gameplay tweaks, Risk of Rain 2 has received a brand-new map called Verdant Falls. As the name suggests, this lush and verdant environment features cascading waterfalls and lush greenery, offering a refreshing change of scenery for players to explore.
Rounding out the update is a new Mercenary skin inspired by the protagonist from the popular roguelike Dead Cells, a nice nod to another beloved title in the genre.
While this free update keeps players engaged with fresh content, the highly anticipated Seekers of the Storm DLC is “coming soon,” promising to introduce even more maps, playable characters, items, and other exciting additions to the Risk of Rain 2 experience.
