Skateboarding enthusiasts and fans of the beloved Skate franchise have received exciting news as Electronic Arts (EA) announced plans to bring the upcoming Skate game to consoles for playtesting later this year. During the Summer Game Fest 2024 presentation, EA treated viewers to a fresh glimpse of gameplay footage, showcasing the game’s online focus and emphasis on creativity.

While the Skate series has been dormant for over a decade, the anticipation for its revival has been steadily building. In a departure from the traditional trailer format, EA unveiled a bizarre skit featuring the fictional creative accounting organization M-Corp, which culminated in a tantalizing gameplay clip that highlighted the game’s online multiplayer and object placement mechanics.

According to the developers at Full Circle, the new Skate game will allow players to place objects in the world, creating unique skate environments. Players will then compete with others in real-time to find the best lines and execute creative tricks, fostering a collaborative and competitive experience.

The gameplay footage showcased skaters performing intricate tricks and maneuvers, as well as more chaotic and unconventional stunts, such as rolling like cannonballs down slopes and steps, hinting at the game’s emphasis on freedom and self-expression.

While the game is still in a pre-pre-alpha state, meaning it is many years away from its official release, EA and Full Circle have been committed to involving fans in the development process from the very beginning. The upcoming console playtest is a continuation of this inclusive approach, allowing players to provide valuable feedback and shape the game’s direction.

Details regarding the specific console platforms and release window for the playtest have yet to be revealed, but EA has promised to share more information in the coming months. The fact that console players will soon have the opportunity to experience the game firsthand has undoubtedly added to the mounting excitement within the Skate community.

As the revival of beloved franchises continues to captivate gamers worldwide, the Skate series stands poised to reclaim its place among the greats. With its focus on creativity, online collaboration, and the thrill of skateboarding, the upcoming Skate title promises to deliver an authentic and exhilarating experience for both seasoned veterans and newcomers alike.

While the road to release may still be long, the inclusion of a console playtest is a significant step forward, allowing EA and Full Circle to gather invaluable feedback and ensure that the final product lives up to the high expectations of the Skate faithful. As the gaming world eagerly awaits further updates, one thing is certain: the wheels of excitement are in motion, and the skateboarding community is ready to drop in.
