Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” has finally completed filming, marking a significant milestone for a project that has faced numerous challenges since its inception. Rachel Zegler, who stars as the titular character, shared the news via her Instagram story, expressing both pride and emotion as she wrapped up the production.

“That’s a wrap on Snow White, and I’m so freaking proud and emotional. Love these people so much,” Zegler wrote, offering a glimpse into the camaraderie developed on set. The announcement comes after an extended production period that included initial filming from March to July 2022, followed by reshoots that began in June 2024.

Directed by Marc Webb, known for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the film boasts a star-studded cast including Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, alongside Andrew Burnap and Ansu Kabia. The screenplay, co-written by “Barbie” scribe Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, promises a fresh take on the classic tale.

The road to completion for “Snow White” has been fraught with setbacks. Originally slated to begin filming in March 2020, production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When filming finally commenced in March 2022, it was briefly interrupted by a fire on set. These delays, compounded by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of 2023, pushed the release date from March 2024 to March 21, 2025.

The project has not been without controversy. The first official image, released in October 2023, sparked criticism on social media, particularly regarding the CGI representation of the Seven Dwarfs. Additionally, Zegler’s casting as Snow White initially faced backlash, though the actress has remained positive about the opportunity to bring diversity to the role.

“Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me. You don’t normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent,” Zegler said in a 2022 interview, highlighting the importance of representation in the film.

As Disney continues to adapt its animated classics into live-action features, “Snow White” enters a landscape where audience reception to such remakes has been mixed. While previous adaptations like “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King” achieved billion-dollar box office success, there’s growing skepticism about the longevity of this trend.

With filming now complete, attention turns to post-production and marketing. Industry insiders speculate that the first trailer may debut at D23 this August, giving audiences their first real look at this reimagined fairy tale.

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025, strategically timed to coincide with spring break in many areas. As Disney banks on nostalgia, star power, and innovative storytelling, all eyes will be on this latest adaptation to see if it can capture the magic of the original while appealing to a new generation of moviegoers.
