Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to star in and produce a new movie called “Why Don’t You Love Me?” based on a graphic novel of the same name. This dark comedy is being made by A24, the same studio behind many of Lawrence’s most interesting films.
The story follows a married couple, Claire and Mark, who seem pretty miserable. As their relationship falls apart, strange things start happening that make them question what’s really going on. The book it’s adapted from sounds nuts – it’s described as a black comedy about marriage, drinking, depression, and missed chances in life. So the movie is sure to be equally weird and surprising.
The screenplay is being written by Robert Funke, known for the creepy show “On Becoming a God in Central Florida.” Other big names producing include Ari Aster, who directed the seriously strange movies “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” and Emily Hildner and Lars Knudsen from the company Square Peg. Even the author of the graphic novel, Paul B. Rainey, is helping out as a producer.
This new project kind of reminds me of Jennifer’s 2017 movie “Mother!” which was super weird and confusing. Both are about marriage problems and things not being what they seem. With Ari Aster involved this time too, it’ll probably be just as unsettling. A lot of people hated “Mother!” but thought Jennifer was amazing in it. So this new role could give her another chance to really blow people away with her acting.
Jennifer has been choosing all kinds of unusual movies lately. She was recently in a raunchy comedy called “No Hard Feelings” and the drama “Causeway,” where her co-star Brian Tyree Henry just got an Oscar nomination.
It looks like her production company Excellent Cadaver and A24 will continue working together too. They just finished “Causeway” and have another mystery thriller called “The Wives” in the works.
They haven’t picked a director for “Why Don’t You Love Me?” yet but it’s sure to be another super interesting film to add to Jennifer’s eclectic collection. Like “Mother!” it will probably mess with your head while also showing off how talented she is. This one looks like it could cement Jennifer as one of Hollywood’s most daring actresses willing to take risks roles.
