I was really excited to see the first trailer for Season 2 of The Rings of Power at Comic-Con this year. It looks like things are gonna ramp up in a big way with lots more action. One of the coolest things they showed was the Ents taking a front seat in the story.
If you’re a Tolkien fan like me, you probably have a million questions about the Ents and where they came from. Well, it seems the show is going to tackle one of the biggest Tolkien mysteries and I can’t wait to see what they do with it.
Two of the actors, Ismael and Maxim, seemed thrilled about working with the Ents this season. Even though the Ents were all computer-generated, Ismael said it was like a dream come true to pretend he was interacting with the giant tree guys from the books. In the trailer, we see Arondir and Isildur meeting Ents in Mordor, so they must play an important role. One Ent is giving advice while another is in a fight – just like in The Two Towers movie.
Here’s where things get really interesting. The Ents in the show are located in the Brown Lands, which is right next to Mordor. That’s the last known home of the Entwives before they disappeared long ago. A lot of fans think the Entwives might have been wiped out by Sauron when he destroyed the gardens.
Could these Ents actually be Entwives? Tolkien never said what really happened to them. Now the show has a chance to come up with their own explanation, which is sure to get people talking.
Season 1 took some heat for moving slow. But Season 2 looks primed to amp things up with the return of Sauron and the forging of the Rings. We’ll also possibly see Tom Bombadil, who the Peter Jackson movies cut out. All in all, it has me stoked to return to Middle-earth on August 29th to see how the Ent mystery unravels and what other surprises are in store!
