Mark Hamill is taking on an unexpected new job – bringing Stephen King’s characters to life on screen. Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker, but now he’s the unexpected star of two upcoming Stephen King movies.
The first film is called “The Life of Chuck.” It’s based on a Stephen King short story and is being made by director Mike Flanagan, who is famous for scary movies. Hamill plays Chuck’s grandfather in the story, which bounces around in time to show important parts of Chuck’s life. Flanagan says they made some changes to help viewers understand how the stories connect better.
The other movie is called “The Long Walk.” It takes place in a scary future America where teens must compete in a deadly walking race. Hamill may portray the sinister man called The Major who runs the contest. King wrote this story back in 1979, so fans have waited a long time to see it as a movie.
In “The Life of Chuck,” Hamill gets to play a kind grandpa. But in “The Long Walk” he might play a scary villain instead. So Hamill can show he has range as an actor, by playing different roles.
Both movies are moving closer to debuting. Fans of King and of Hamill are excited to see how the veteran actor brings King’s memorable characters to life on screen. It’s a cool surprise that Mark Hamill is now leading the way in Stephen King adaptations. Only time will tell if the films live up to their great source material!
