The Television Academy and ABC have selected Eugene and Dan Levy to serve as hosts for the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony in September 2024. Eugene and Dan Levy, known for creating and starring in the hit sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” will become the first father-son duo to jointly host the prestigious award show. The ceremony will take place on September 15, 2024 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and air live on ABC.
Eugene and Dan expressed excitement about hosting the Emmys together in a joint statement. “As Canadians who accepted our Emmy awards during the pandemic, being asked to host the ceremony in an actual theater is very motivating,” they said. They look forward to toasting the outstanding television of the past year with the audience.
The selection comes after the Levys’ historic wins at the 2020 Emmy Awards, where they made history as the first father-son hosts to receive awards in the same year. “Schitt’s Creek” had a dominant showing that night, with both Eugene and Dan earning multiple awards for their roles in creating and starring on the hit sitcom.
Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television, praised the Levys for their “comedic intuition and ability to connect with viewers.” Likewise, Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said they were thrilled to welcome “two generations of comic talent” as hosts. The decision to select the Levys signals continued recognition for the lasting impact and critical acclaim of “Schitt’s Creek.”
Both Eugene and Dan have remained active in entertainment since the conclusion of their hugely popular series. Eugene currently executive produces and hosts the Apple TV+ travel series “The Reluctant Traveler,” which has been renewed for a third season.
He will also guest star on the upcoming fourth season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Dan has expanded into producing and directing, with his first feature film “Good Grief” set for release in 2023. He also created and hosted the Max cooking competition show “The Big Brunch.”
The 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony will air live on ABC on September 15 at 8 p.m. ET, with next-day streaming on Hulu. By choosing the talented father-son duo, the selection highlights both established expertise and new comedic voices shaping the evolving television industry.
