The creators of the hit 2003 film “Freaky Friday” have revealed details about the long-awaited sequel coming in 2025. At Disney’s D23 Expo event, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan announced the title of the new movie – “Freakier Friday”. The original film told the story of a mother and daughter who magically swap bodies.
Curtis and Lohan will reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman in the sequel. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, they shared news about an intriguing new cast member. Manny Jacinto will join the film playing Eric Davis, Anna’s husband. Jacinto is known for his comedic work in the sitcom “The Good Place” as well as more serious roles. Lohan described Jacinto as “lovely” and “so funny”, signaling he may bring humor to the role.
The sequel will explore Anna’s life as a mother in a blended family. Her impending marriage to Eric creates tension with her daughter Harper, who isn’t enthusiastic about her mother’s new relationship. Fans are curious how the movie will handle Chad Michael Murray’s character Jake, Anna’s love interest in the original. Curtis teased Murray returns but didn’t give details about his role.
By including original actors and characters while adding new storylines, the film aims to honor what fans loved about “Freaky Friday” but also introduce a contemporary perspective. Jacinto’s versatile acting suggests his character Eric could add humor and depth. As the sequel takes shape, makers seem focused on recapturing the magic of the first movie in a way that excites both longtime fans and new audiences.
