The Disney+ TV series based on Rick Riordan’s popular Percy Jackson book series has started production on its second season. Season two will adapt the second Percy Jackson novel, titled “The Sea of Monsters.”
Production recently kicked off on the 10-episode season. Viewers got a first look at what’s to come in a brief teaser video shown at Disney’s D23 event last month. The clip featured the main character Percy Jackson, portrayed by Walker Scobell, preparing to ride a chariot into what looks to be an exciting new challenge.
Riordan’s books follow the adventures of Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old demigod grappling with his supernatural powers while navigating school. In season two, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood finding things seem more dangerous than before. He also needs to figure out why his friend Grover went missing. Along with friends Annabeth and new character Tyson, Percy must journey through the dangerous Sea of Monsters to rescue Grover and save his home.
The series continues its successful adaptation of the book series with new cast members joining the show. Daniel Diemer takes on the role of Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother. Diemer expressed excitement about being part of the “extraordinary” Percy Jackson world. Author Rick Riordan praised Diemer saying he’ll bring “a whole new dimension” to the Tyson character.
The season will also see the return of stars Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Sava as Annabeth, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover. Comedian actors Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho join as the mysterious Gray Sisters.
Judging by the popularity of season one, which debuted with over 13 million viewers, this exciting next chapter in Percy Jackson’s story looks to captivate both new and returning fans alike when it releases on Disney+.
