Walt Disney World announced plans for a major expansion to its Animal Kingdom theme park. Construction will begin this fall on an 11-acre area called Pueblo Esperanza, themed around tropical South and Central America. Slated to open in 2027, the new land will feature attractions based on “Indiana Jones” and Disney’s animated hit “Encanto.”
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, said Imagineers are designing unique experiences for the new attractions. Central Florida will see dirt moving and building plans being drawn as Disney teams get to work bringing these stories to life in real places.
A key part of Pueblo Esperanza will be a first-of-its-kind Indiana Jones adventure. Riders will explore a recently uncovered Maya temple in search of a rumored mythical creature, just like archaeologist Indiana Jones. Actor Ke Huy Quan, who appeared in the Indiana Jones films, made a surprise appearance at the announcement event.

Joining Indiana Jones will be Disney World’s first “Encanto”-themed ride. Visitors tour the magical Casita home of the Madrigals through Antonio’s perspective. His rainforest room now shows his power to communicate with animals. Riders may spot other beloved characters from the animated film.
Pueblo Esperanza aims to feel lived-in with sprawling natural landscapes and history. A large hacienda will house one of the park’s largest restaurants. A central fountain serves as a gathering spot for storytelling. Plus, families can enjoy an updated carousel featuring animals from Disney stories.

Beyond the new land, Animal Kingdom will debut the “Zootopia”-themed show “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” at its theater next winter. Taking guests on a journey through the film’s biomes, the production stars characters from the Disney movie.
D’Amaro said these projects showcase Disney’s commitment to evolving its parks with innovative experiences based on popular stories, while maintaining Animal Kingdom’s focus on wildlife. When complete, Pueblo Esperanza will offer adventures, magic and cultural exploration for visitors.
