Sarah Paulson has been cast in the lead role of an upcoming horror thriller titled “Hold Your Breath.” Set during the 1930s Dust Bowl era in Oklahoma, the film tells the story of a mother named Margaret who must protect her daughters from deadly dust storms as well as haunting spirits from her past. It will premiere exclusively on Hulu on October 3, 2024 just before Halloween.
The movie delves into a local legend from the time period known as the Grey Man. According to the legend, this malevolent spirit would ride the winds of the dust storms, getting into people’s lungs and minds when they breathed in the dust. Once inhaled, the Grey Man could allegedly make people do terrible things. This sets an ominous tone for Paulson’s character as she struggles to shield her family from the external dangers of the Dust Bowl as well as unexplained internal threats.
Joining Paulson is a cast of talented actors that includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach of the popular TV show “The Bear.” Moss-Bachrach plays a mysterious character whose role adds to the film’s suspense. Other cast members are Annaleigh Ashford, child actress Amiah Miller, and Bill Heck. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Karrie Crouse and William Joines, who also wrote the screenplay.
Producers Alix Madigan and Lucas Joaquin are financing the project, which has drawn significant attention from its intriguing plotline and big-name lead actress. Paulson is well-known for her roles in thrilling TV shows like “American Horror Story.” Moss-Bachrach is poised for greater recognition after his acclaimed performance in “The Bear” and his upcoming role in the Marvel movie “Fantastic Four.”
By blending supernatural elements with psychological horror against the backdrop of the 1930s Dust Bowl, “Hold Your Breath” aims to create a deliciously unsettling viewing experience for audiences. Viewers will be left questioning what is real, a memory, or just a nightmare. With its compelling story and talented cast and crew, the film is primed to stand out among other horror movies this fall season.
