Sydney Sweeney, known for her role as Cassie Howard in HBO’s drama series “Euphoria,” has expressed her excitement about reprising her character in the show’s upcoming third season. In a recent interview with People magazine, Sweeney said she is thrilled to come back to the role of Cassie. “I’m very excited to jump back into Cassie,” she stated. “She is definitely one of the most special characters for me and I love my ‘Euphoria’ family, so I look forward to it.”
The 24-year-old actress, who has gained recognition for her moving portrayal of Cassie’s complexity and struggles, hinted that she hopes Cassie will continue growing in deeper ways. “I love crazy Cassie, so the crazier, the better for me,” Sweeney remarked, suggesting Cassie may experience more intense emotional challenges. However, Sweeney also said she does not yet know specific plot details for season three. “Honestly, I don’t know anything about it,” she admitted when asked about upcoming storylines.
Production of “Euphoria’s” third season has faced pandemic-related delays and uncertainty until recently. In March 2020, HBO announced filming would be postponed indefinitely, encouraging the cast to seek other work in the meantime. But the network later confirmed shooting will start in early 2024, easing fans’ and performers’ worries.
For Sweeney, returning to the “Euphoria” set means reuniting with the crew and cast who supported her career rise. “They were with me from the beginning,” she reflected. “We all grew together even as we dealt with our own experiences, so it’s comforting having that core group.” She also noted the unique bond shared among performers like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer. “It helps that we understand each other, having gone through similar things,” Sweeney added.
While “Euphoria” established Sweeney’s career, she has since appeared in other notable films and series, proving her versatility. She starred recently in the rom-com “Anyone But You” and biopic “Reality” about whistleblower Reality Winner. Sweeney also featured in the acclaimed drama “The White Lotus.” As fans await the provocative series’ return, Sweeney’s remarks tease what’s ahead for Cassie and the compelling characters of the hit HBO show.
