Marvel Studios released a new video for “Thunderbolts,” which looks like it will be different from other superhero movies. The movie, which is set to come out on May 2, 2025, will bring together a group of complicated figures from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies to create an alternative to the current superhero scene.
The video, which was shown at D23 Brazil, shows a large cast, with Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and David Harbour as Red Guardian. Wyatt Russell joins them as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who oversees all of them.
The movie seems different from other superhero movies because it takes place in the old Avengers Tower, which Valentina now owns. The chase scene in the desert with Bucky Barnes reminds me of old-school action movies, and The Toadies’ music in the trailer gives the action a tone I wasn’t expecting.
A strange new figure named Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, may be important to the story. Marvel Studios has purposely kept Bob’s part a secret, which has led to much talk about how he might be connected to the superhero Sentry.
The trailer uses the cast’s comedy skills to show how the team uniquely interacts with each other. When Red Guardian, Yelena, and John Walker talk to each other, it should be funny, and Valentina will add her funny touch to the mix.
Jake Schreier, who directed “Robot and Frank,” seems to be taking the project differently. Early footage shows that the looks are polished and that the style differs from what the MCU uses.
Marvel refers to “Thunderbolts” as an “irreverent team-up featuring depressed assassin Yelena Belova alongside the MCU’s least anticipated band of misfits.” The company is betting on how well the cast gets along, which has worked well in recent superhero movies.
After more than five years since the last Avengers movie, “Thunderbolts” boldly reinvents Marvel’s movie universe and offers fans a new and different superhero experience.
