During a special promotional weekend on January 4th and 5th, Apple will give away free access to its streaming service, Apple TV Plus. This is the first time since the platform’s launch that it has offered such a promotion.
On social media, the company shared an event announcement along with a promotional trailer that showcases its wide range of content with the tagline “see for yourself.” The second season of the hit television series Severance, which will air on January 17th, will run concurrently with this effort.
This free viewing option lets people who might become subscribers check out Apple’s huge library of content. Series like “For All Mankind,” “Silo,” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” which are all critically praised, are available to watch. Apple has not said, though, whether the promotion will cover all of its content or just originals.
This weekend, see for yourself.

This approach is similar to what traditional cable networks like HBO have done to get new customers: offering free preview weekends. Streaming competitor Netflix has also given away some movies for free.
The promotion comes right before new content is released and when viewers usually increase their streaming activity, so Apple’s timing appears to be intentional. The company hinted a few days ago that streaming might be free, but it hasn’t said much about it until now.
