The sci-fi mythological film Kalki 2898 AD has made waves around the world, earning over $140 million at the worldwide box office. This has been a great year for Indian films. Although it came out in 2024, “Pushpa 2: The Rise” recently beat it in December. The movie is preparing to open in Japan on January 3, and the people who worked on it are celebrating its success.
“Kalki 2898 AD,” directed by Nag Ashwin and made by Vyjayanthi Movies, cost $72 million, making it one of the most expensive Indian movies ever. The story follows the journey of Bhairava, who Prabhas plays. It has parts of Hindu mythology and the future. The movie is set in a future torn apart by war and environmental damage. It has a great cast, with Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama, Deepika Padukone as Sumathi, and Kamal Haasan as the bad guy, Supreme Yaskin.
Producer Priyanka Dutt was shocked by the movie’s worldwide popularity. She said, “When we first dreamed of ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ we could never have imagined the kind of impact it would have on audiences worldwide.” This shows how powerful stories can be and how hard our skilled team works.
The movie’s marketing plan was creative and different from usual practices. The team organized several well-known events, such as a launch at San Diego Comic-Con and a Times Square sign reveal. They also showed movies at well-known places like the Busan International Film Festival and the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
One of the most interesting parts of the marketing campaign was the national tour of Bujji, a six-ton futuristic vehicle that plays the hero’s friend in the movie. Prime Video showed a cartoon intro as part of the campaign, and there were smart ads during India’s IPL cricket season.
Trader Taran Adarsh praised the marketing and pointed out how it created one-of-a-kind experiences: “The genius of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’s marketing lay in its ability to create moments that transcended cinema.”
“For us, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was never just a film; it was a labor of love,” said producer Swapna Dutt Chalasani, emphasizing how important the project was. The fact that people worldwide love it shows how magical stories can be.
As preparations for its Japanese release continue, plans for a sequel have begun, promising an epic showdown between the characters played by Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The success of “Kalki 2898 AD” is a big deal for Indian cinema because it shows that the country can make technically advanced material that respects cultural heritage while pushing creative limits.
