Following its successful festival run, the award-winning horror movie “Oddity” is garnering major international traction, with distribution deals signed on numerous continents, according to industry sources.
Damian McCarthy directed the film, which first gained traction when it won the Midnighter Audience Award at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival in March. Since then, Blue Finch Films has actively pursued international distribution, signing deals in over 20 territories.
“Oddity” is the story of a psychic on a terrifying journey to discover the truth about her sister’s murder. This appealing notion has appealed to both international distributors and audiences. Following its premiere at SXSW, the film was shown at several major genre festivals, including Transylvania, Neuchatel, Galway, and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
Key distribution deals have been signed in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Some notable territories include France (Mediawan), Germany (Tiberius Film), Scandinavia (Night Visions Distribution), Spain (Yoda Films), and Italy (Plaion Pictures). Furthermore, the film received distribution in Eastern Europe, primarily in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
In Asia, “Oddity” will be accessible in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Thailand, with sales negotiations underway in Turkey and Japan. Falcon Films will manage the film’s distribution in the Middle East.
In North America, IFC Films has already released “Oddity,” which is also accessible for streaming on Shudder in English-speaking territories. The film is a collaboration between Shudder, Keeper Pictures, and Nowhere Films.
The successful international distribution of “Oddity” demonstrates the film’s widespread popularity as well as the expanding global demand for unique horror narratives. This deliberate festival circuit approach demonstrated the film’s ability to resonate with a wide range of people around the world.
