Universal Pictures has announced that the much-anticipated sequel to its “Wicked” film adaptation will be “Wicked: For Good.” The film is slated to release in theaters on November 21, 2025.
This sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, continues the plot of the original chapter, which grossed more than $524 million worldwide. This marks the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in domestic movie office history. The sequel, starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, promises to enrich the emotional story of the iconic musical.
The title “Wicked: For Good” alludes to a crucial song from the original Broadway play. This touching duet between Glinda and Elphaba represents their changing bond and inspired the film’s subtitle.

Chu has stated that the sequel will deal with contemporary cultural challenges. He told Variety, “I didn’t know where we’d be in society right now. It becomes eight times more relevant than previously when discussing truth and the repercussions of making the right or wrong decision. “It is intense.”
The sequel continues from where the previous film left off, with Glinda and Elphaba in Shiz University. It follows Elphaba as she accepts her powers and is designated an enemy of the state by the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).
The first picture premiered on November 22, 2023, has already broken box office records. It broke the previous domestic record set by “Grease” and is now second only to “Mamma Mia” regarding global adaption.
Fans are excited for the finale of this cinematic musical odyssey, as “Wicked: For Good” promises to finish up the epic story of friendship, power, and transformation.
