Paramount Pictures has set March 19, 2027, as the release date for the fourth movie in its blockbuster “Sonic the Hedgehog” series. The announcement comes amid the outstanding success of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which has earned $422 million worldwide, making it the franchise’s biggest hit yet.
The latest film has shown impressive box office strength since its Christmas release. It has collected $218 million in the United States and topped charts in more than 30 countries, including major markets like the UK, Mexico, Italy, and Australia. Audiences have warmly embraced the movie, giving it an “A” CinemaScore rating.
Star power helped drive the third film’s success. Keanu Reeves joined the cast as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog, while Jim Carrey took on two roles, playing both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik. Ben Schwartz returned to voice Sonic, the series’ main character.
Jeff Fowler, who has directed all three Sonic movies, recently spoke about what makes the series work. “The message of these films comes through in how we make them,” he told TheWrap. “When you work with the right team and listen to each other, anything is possible.”
Producer Neal Moritz, known for hits like “Fast & Furious” and “21 Jump Street,” shares Fowler’s enthusiasm. “In my long career, few projects have excited me as much as ‘Sonic,'” he said to TheWrap. “Jeff’s kindness and hard work show in every scene, creating real love for these characters.”
The movie’s success extends beyond theaters. Paramount reports that “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has brought in $180 million from home entertainment sales and rentals worldwide. While details about the fourth movie remain secret, fans have spotted hints about new video game characters in the current film’s mid-credits scene.
The franchise has now earned more than $1 billion at the global box office, making it one of the most successful video game adaptations ever made.
