The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has canceled the live reveal of the nominees for the 31st SAG Awards because of a dangerous wildfire in the Los Angeles area of Pacific Palisades. Instead, the nominations will be made public on January 8 at 7:30 AM PT through a press statement and on the SAG website.
As this choice is made, firefighters are battling a huge 1,200-acre fire that has forced many people to leave their homes, including nursing homes. Some people have even had to let go of their horses to keep them safe from the fires.
“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, we have canceled the live in-person nominations announcement due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,” the SAG said. It was first planned that the event would take place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.
The big SAG Awards show is still set for February 23, even though the nominations have been changed. The group said it was excited to enjoy the actors’ successes and stressed that safety is the most important thing for everyone in the affected areas.
Officials have called the fire conditions “apocalyptic,” which shows how bad things are. This last-minute change in style shows how the entertainment business needs to adapt to natural disasters, especially as fire seasons worsen in California.
Even though the nominations will now be made public online, the main focus is still on the safety of the people in Los Angeles and the firefighters fighting the fire. The SAG Awards team has said again that their main worry during this crisis is the community’s well-being.
